10/07-08/2026 – Extraordinary Floral: Figure Tools and Techniques in Floral Carving with Daniel Rhodes

$160

Skill level:  Intermediate +

Estimated time:  2 days

Class cap at 12

Daniel is not one who has been doing leatherwork for decades, but he has thrown himself deeply into the art.  His carving is detailed, precise, and figural, preferring an exciting and dramatic form over stylistic adherence.  He is infectiously enthusiastic about leatherwork and has helped encourage many more people to start on their leatherworking journey.  He is currently president of the fast-growing Raleigh Leatherworkers Guild in Raleigh, NC, and is devoted to growing the Guild, both locally and nationally (IFoLG).  Students will find he is happy to help however he can, has lots of great tips and tricks, with no secrets held back–if it is something that drives your excitement for leatherwork, it is something that should be shared.  Daniel won 13 ribbons in last years IFoLG competition, as well as several from his State Fair. He is hopeful to add more ribbons to his collection this coming year!

Tools:

Tooling slab, mallet, water (spray bottle, sponge, etc)

Basic carving tools plus modeling spoon, ball-end stylus, matting tools (smooth preferably), pointed beveler (902), 934, 913 or 914 L&R, push lifters (pro-petal, Ed LBarre, Greyghost, or similar).  I will have tools to lend to those who do not have them.  Bring all your carving stamps if you can–part of what we will be doing is looking for unusual places to apply stamps, particularly in the Craftool Figure Carving set.
