This is a demonstration class to introduce the participant to the many ways to line a small box, such as a jewelry box. The quality of a box can be dramatically enhanced with a lining such as pig suede, other leathers, or other materials. This will be a demonstration class with finished boxes and partially lined boxes to examine, each with a different lining. As a bonus, this class will also demonstrate how to make a “simple” band saw box and then line this box with a various materials. A handout will be provided that shows the step-by-step process to make a band saw box.

John Amdall is an engineer who pursued a sculptural contemporary woodworking hobby for over 50 years. In retirement, John has become an active instructor on a variety of topics including box making, woodworking and upholstery. In recent years he has been focused on box making, upholstery and leather working. He has taken a systematic, engineering approach to making baxes and will share his learning journey through an exploration of the many options available to make a box and then line this box with a variety of materials including pig suede, other leathers, and other materials.
