The male mallard duck is a beautiful bird with beautiful coloration. Ever since I started doing leather, I noticed that painting was the most difficult part for most leather crafters. You can have the most beautiful carving destroyed by putting paint on it, knowing that you can’t remove it once you put it on the leather. The Duck will be carved, embossed and undercut with a scalpel.
Note: this is not a beginner’s carving class but the painting aspect of it will be. Most of the instructional time will be spent on painting.

Galo Garcia Jr., a native of San Antonio, was born with a natural artistic ability. He started working with leather in 2006. After years of study and practice, he has developed a style of his own that gives the viewer a sense of realism. He strives to make each piece better than the last and lives by these words:
“In whatever you do, do it with all your heart, as if you were doing it for the Lord and not unto man.” Colossians 3:23
He served in the Army and Air Force and retired after 26 years of service in 2009. In 2007, he began competing in IFoLG and has won awards every year that he has competed. He has won numerous awards outside of IFoLG and currently competes in the Master’s division.
